Staple your homework. Write your name clearly. Clearly label problem number. Box or circle final answer.

There will be approximately 11-13 homeworks due in class on Fridays or Mondays. Friday homeworks will be posted on the preceding Saturday and Monday homeworks will be posted on the preceding Monday. Late homeworks will not be accepted (however, your lowest homework score will be dropped). You are encouraged and welcome to collaborate with other students on homeworks. That means you can talk to others and discuss the homework problems. But you must write up the solutions on your own.


Grading Homeworks 15%, Midterms 25% each, Final Exam 35%. Your lowest homework score will be dropped.


There will be two evening midterm exams of 80 minutes each and a final exam of 3 hours. Exam dates TBD.

Conflict Exams: If you have a university approved reason for requesting a conflict exam, you must register for the conflict exam by talking in person to the instructor by the dates stated below. You may be asked to show evidence of a university approved conflict reason.

DRES Exams: For Exams 1 and 2, if you are taking an exam administered by DRES please schedule it for the day after the class takes the exam for any time that is convenient to you.

Exam 1: Thursday February 20, 7:00 pm - 8:20 pm, NOYES Room 217.

Conflict Exam 1: Friday February 21, 3:00 pm - 4:20 pm, Location TBA. Must register for Conflict Exam 1 by Monday February 17 class time.

Exam 2: Thursday April 2, 7:00 pm - 8:20 pm, NOYES Room 217.

Conflict Exam 2: Friday April 3, 3:00 pm - 4:20 pm, Location TBA. Must register for Conflict Exam 2 by Monday March 30 class time.

Final Exam: Will PROBABLY be on Friday May 8 (request has been submitted -- subject to approval by campus). Exam will cover the entire course syllabus covered during semester.


Textbook Sheldon Ross, A First Course in Probability, 9th Edition, 2014, Pearson. Other editions are okay for studying; the homework problems will be from the 9th edition. (The 10th Edition of the book came out recently but this term we will continue to use the 9th edition which is the edition that the bookstore has.)
